ECI To Publish Tamil Nadu’s Final Electoral Roll On February 17; New Voter IDs To Be Sent By Express Post

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has confirmed that the final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu will be published on February 17, bringing to a close a comprehensive revision exercise aimed at ensuring accuracy and transparency in voter records ahead of the Assembly elections.

The revision process involved an extensive verification drive across the state to clean and update the voters’ list, strengthening the integrity of the electoral database.

As part of the special intensive revision, officials identified and removed the names of deceased voters, individuals who had shifted residence, and those who failed to provide required documentation. This exercise was undertaken to ensure that only eligible voters remain on the rolls.

Following the verification, the draft electoral roll was published on December 19 last year, after which citizens were invited to submit applications for new enrolments, corrections, and modifications. The deadline for submitting these applications concluded on Monday.

The response from the public was substantial, with around 34.75 lakh applications received across Tamil Nadu. These included requests for fresh voter registrations, changes of address, and corrections to personal details.

Booth Level Officers conducted door-to-door verification, document checks, and field visits to authenticate the applications. According to the Commission, nearly 90 per cent of the applications have already been verified, and the remaining checks are expected to be completed by Tuesday.

Final Roll Access And Voter ID Dispatch

Once the verification process is completed, the final electoral roll will be published on February 17. The updated list will be available at District Collector offices, Corporation offices, polling stations, and on the official Election Commission website.

In parallel, the Commission has initiated the issuance of voter identification numbers for newly enrolled voters. Printing of Elector Photo Identity Cards is currently in progress.

From February 17 onwards, newly issued voter ID cards will be delivered directly to applicants’ residences through express post, ensuring faster and more convenient delivery.

Election officials stated that the revision exercise underscores the Commission’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and inclusive elections by maintaining an accurate and up-to-date voter database across Tamil Nadu.
