Pimpri Chinchwad’s first-ever Virtual Townhall under the #DrugFreePimpriChinchwad campaign witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 45,000 citizens participating through 819 groups on Google Meet Enterprise+, significantly surpassing initial expectations.
The initiative, described by Pimpri Chinchwad’s Police Commissioner Vinoy K Choubey as an experiment to assess the potential of digital platforms in spreading anti-drug awareness at scale, aimed to reach thousands of citizens with minimal effort and virtually no cost.
The organisers had initially targeted around 400 groups, expecting participation from an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 people.
The campaign more than quadrupled those projections, with over 45,000 citizens joining the virtual Townhall across 819 groups.
In addition to the Google Meet sessions, the live question-and-answer session hosted on X attracted more than 37,400 views, further expanding the campaign’s outreach.
Reflecting on the response, Police Commissioner Vinoy K Choubey said the participation figures represented more than just attendance, describing them as a sign that citizens are ready to unite in building safer, healthier and drug-free cities. He also expressed hope that the initiative would mark the beginning of a sustained community movement against drug abuse, with digital platforms playing a key role in mobilising public participation and awareness.
