Dr Rajeshwar Singh launched the ‘Net Zero Industry’ initiative, translating the #NetZeroSarojiniNagar2040 vision into concrete action with strong backing from industrial stakeholders. The launch marks a crucial shift from planning to implementation in sustainable development.
Sarojini Nagar moved forward in its #NetZeroSarojiniNagar2047 vision by introducing the initiative under ‘The Green Shift’ in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna.
Addressing the gathering, FM Khanna highlighted that prevention is better than cure and called for a proactive approach to environmental protection. He urged stakeholders to anticipate challenges and act with responsibility and collective commitment.
FM Khanna praised Dr Rajeshwar Singh’s consistent efforts in environmental conservation and sustainable development. He also appreciated the initiative of bringing Lucknow’s industrial community onto a single platform to foster collaboration and dialogue for a greener future.
The initiative represents the fourth and most vital pillar of a structured Net Zero roadmap, which includes Net Zero Schools and Colleges, Societies and RWAs, Townships, Industry, and Villages and Water Bodies, forming a comprehensive sustainability strategy.
After multiple impactful programmes in the Terai region, the launch signifies a transition from awareness campaigns to real-world execution, strengthening Sarojini Nagar’s commitment to sustainability.
The programme underscored that industries and MSMEs are central to both environmental challenges and solutions.
Data revealed losses due to heat stress and pollution, alongside financial setbacks for businesses, highlighting the urgency of adopting sustainable practices.
Global indicators such as rising temperatures and health impacts reinforce that sustainability is no longer optional but a critical economic requirement for long-term resilience.
The initiative presents Net Zero as an opportunity rather than a cost, offering benefits such as reduced energy expenses through solar adoption, efficiency-driven savings, improved export competitiveness, and additional revenue through carbon credits.
Support Framework for Industry
A comprehensive support framework has been established, including government schemes, subsidised loans, green financing, and expert guidance from trained professionals, along with private-sector partnerships for carbon management solutions.
To drive wider engagement, ‘The Green Shift Industrial Excellence Award’ will be presented on World Environment Day, with a Rs 5 lakh prize for the best-performing industrial unit.
Industries have been provided with a simple framework, Detect, Design, Deploy and Deliver, to effectively adopt and implement sustainable practices.
The initiative aligns with the sustainability goals of Narendra Modi and complements the governance approach of CM Yogi Adityanath, ensuring strong coordination between policy and execution.
Dr Rajeshwar Singh stated that Net Zero is no longer a distant ambition but a measurable and achievable model, adding that Sarojini Nagar has taken the first step towards making industry leaders in sustainable development.
With this initiative, Sarojini Nagar is emerging as a model of decentralised climate action, demonstrating how local leadership, industrial participation and structured planning can shape India’s sustainable future.
