The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially started building activities at Central Secretariat Metro Station, a crucial component of the Central Vista Corridor in New Delhi.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal inaugurated the works in the presence of senior Ministry representatives and DMRC officials.
The station is being developed under Phase V(A) of Delhi Metro’s expansion plan. It forms part of the Magenta Line extension connecting Janakpuri West with RK Ashram Marg.
After completion, Central Secretariat will function as a three-line interchange, linking passengers directly to the Magenta, Yellow, and Violet Lines.
The upgraded transport hub will simplify travel for thousands of commuters visiting government offices and administrative districts in central Delhi.
The Central Vista Corridor will extend across 9.913 kilometres and include nine underground stations.
These stations are Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.
Officials believe the corridor will provide faster and more efficient access to important government institutions, courts, memorial sites and convention venues. They also expect it to improve passenger movement across the network.
Following the planned extension, the Magenta Line will become the longest route in the Delhi Metro system.
Running from Botanical Garden to Inderlok, the corridor will span nearly 89 kilometres and operate entirely with driverless train technology.
The expanded line will accommodate 65 stations, including 40 underground stops.
The extensive interchange network will shorten travel times, reduce congestion on existing routes and improve connectivity across Delhi-NCR.
The Magenta Line showcases two remarkable engineering achievements within the Delhi Metro network.
Haiderpur Badli Mor stands as the system’s highest elevated station, while Hauz Khas serves as its deepest underground station.
These achievements also underline the sophisticated design and engineering expertise behind the project. They highlight the scale of one of the capital’s most ambitious urban transport corridors.
