Digvijaya Singh’s 900-Km March To Ayodhya: Ram Temple Donations, ‘Vote Theft’ Fuel Political Buzz

Report – Ajay Bhatnagar

Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has drawn political attention with his approximately 900-km ‘Satya Sanatan Swabhiman Yatra’ from Ujjain to Ayodhya.

Launched on Dussehra from the city of Mahakal, the march has sparked debate over its religious message and possible political implications.

Singh, accompanied by his wife Amrita Singh and supporters, plans to cover around 15 km daily, travelling through Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The procession features the national flag alongside a five-coloured religious flag.

Although Singh describes the march as a non-political initiative to communicate his views and uphold Sanatan traditions, his statements on the Ram Temple donations and alleged vote theft have prompted questions about its broader objectives.

Singh has sought an account of Ram Temple donations, saying he also contributed and wants the funds’ utilisation details made public.

The Congress leader presents his questions as an effort to seek accountability rather than pursue political gains. However, critics have challenged his position, questioning his motives and accusing him of using religious issues for political visibility. The exchanges have added a political dimension to the march.

The march has fuelled speculation about its impact on Uttar Pradesh politics, as Singh raises issues such as alleged electoral irregularities. Its political influence will depend on public response and the issues he highlights.

The journey has also revived memories of Singh’s 2017-18 Narmada Parikrama, which preceded Congress’s victory in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. The Kamal Nath-led government fell in March 2020.

Although Singh describes the march as a religious and social initiative, critics question its political motives. His statements and public response during the journey to Ayodhya will determine its wider significance.
