In Chennai Central railway station, a differently-abled man from Chhattisgarh was discovered deceased beneath a berth in a general train compartment on Wednesday evening. The lifeless body of the 25-year-old individual, named Prakash, was found secured with his neck, hands, and feet tied to a rod beneath the berth.
Prakash, accompanied by his two relatives, 35-year-old Ram Kumar and a 15-year-old, was en route to his hometown via the Kochuveli-Gorakhpur Rapti Sagar Express from Erode. The police took both Ramkumar and the teenager into custody on charges of murder, according to a report by the Times of India.
Upon the train’s arrival at the station, Ram kumar and the teen attempted to awaken Prakash but tragically discovered him deceased, as informed by the police. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has dispatched his body for postmortem examination.
Reports suggest that Prakash, who was married and a parent, arrived in Erode on August 15 with his relatives and others to labour at a stone quarry. Unfortunately, he displayed signs of sickness and restlessness. Witnesses mentioned that Prakash was seen wandering aimlessly, prompting his relatives to consider returning him home.

On the evening of Wednesday, accompanied by his family members, they boarded the train. Investigations revealed that during the journey, Prakash continued wandering aimlessly, causing discomfort among fellow passengers. Responding to complaints from other passengers, Ramkumar and the teenager tied Prakash’s hands and feet using a cloth. As he persisted in screaming, passengers reported that they secured his neck to subdue him and placed him under the berth.
A GRP officer suggested that the deceased may have attempted to free himself, inadvertently leading to strangulation. Ramkumar was incarcerated, while the teenager, classified as a juvenile, was placed in a state correctional facility.
