Dhruv Rathee Detained At Gurugram Residence Ahead Of CJP Protest In Delhi

Gurugram Police detained social media influencer Dhruv Rathee at his residence on Saturday ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) planned protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Rathee attended a demonstration against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengaluru on Thursday and was scheduled to join Saturday’s protest.

According to a post on the CJP’s X account, around 50 plainclothes police personnel arrived at Rathee’s residence at approximately 08:00 AM and took him into custody.

In its post, the CJP confirmed the reported detention and alleged that the authorities feared young people who questioned their actions and refused to remain silent.

The reported detention comes as Delhi Police strengthens security across the national capital ahead of the demonstration.

Officers are checking vehicles at borders, conducting drone surveillance and using body cameras to record potential incidents.

Security has also increased outside the residences of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House, remain closed as part of the arrangements.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anant Mittal inspected preparations at the Aya Nagar border.

Mittal said police had introduced special arrangements across Delhi and the South district, with vehicle checks at inter-state and inter-district borders to maintain law and order.

Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel are maintaining security at New Delhi Railway Station. Officers are conducting security marches and using drones to monitor the situation.

Authorities have, however, intensified surveillance and access checks across key locations ahead of the protest to prevent disturbances and maintain public order.
