Lieutenant General Devendra Pratap Pandey spoke about national security and self-reliance during the Bharat Express Mega Conclave 2026 in Delhi.
The former Chinar Corps commander stressed that the principle of ‘nation first’ must guide every national policy and decision.
Pandey explained that India’s strength lies in unity, discipline and strategic preparedness. He stated that the armed forces consistently place the nation’s interest above personal considerations.
According to Devendra Pandey, this approach must extend beyond the military and influence governance, policy making and public responsibility.
The retired general also spoke about the growing importance of self-reliance in defence production. He argued that India must develop indigenous capabilities in technology, weapons systems and strategic infrastructure.
Such capabilities would reduce dependence on external suppliers and strengthen national security.
Pandey noted that the idea of a self-reliant India has gained momentum in recent years.
The concept aligns with the broader national mission of building a resilient economy and robust defence ecosystem.
The policy framework known as Atmanirbhar Bharat promotes domestic manufacturing and technological innovation across sectors.
During the conclave, Pandey shared insights from his decades of service in the Indian Army. He highlighted the sacrifices made by soldiers while safeguarding the country’s borders.
Pandey said such experiences shape the military’s unwavering commitment to national integrity and sovereignty.
Devendra Pandey further explained that strategic autonomy requires strong institutions and technological advancement. India must invest in research, innovation and defence manufacturing to achieve long-term security goals.
He added that collaboration between government, industry and academia will be crucial in this process.
