The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) is gearing up to convene the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ at Delhi’s Ramlila ground on March 14, expecting an attendance of over 50,000 farmers from Punjab, as per the SKM’s estimates. In light of this event, the Delhi traffic police has issued an advisory, notifying commuters about traffic regulations and route diversions.
According to the advisory, traffic movement will be regulated from 6 am to 4 pm on Thursday along several routes, including Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Asaf Ali Road, Swami Vivekanand Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, Minto Road, Maharaja Ranjeet Singh flyover, Bhavbhuti Marg, Chaman Lal Marg, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Jai Singh Road, Sansad Marg, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Ashoka Road, Connaught Circus, and DDU Marg.
Additionally, traffic diversions may be implemented on routes such as Delhi Gate, Mir Dard Chowk, Ajmeri Gate Chowk, Guru Nanak Chowk, R/Kamla Market, Paharganj Chowk, R/A Jhandewalan, Maharaja Ranjeet Singh flyover from Barakhamba Road to Guru Nanak Chowk, Barakhamba Road/Tolstoy Road crossing, Janpath road/Tolstoy Marg crossing, and R/A GPO, starting from 6 am.
The advisory urged commuters heading towards ISBT, railway stations, or the airport to plan their travel meticulously, allocating ample time. It also urged cooperation from the public by avoiding or circumventing the aforementioned roads if possible and advocating for the extensive use of public transportation, particularly Metro services. Furthermore, the general public was advised to allocate sufficient time for road journeys involving the mentioned roads and junctions.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police have issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for conducting the Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Maidan and have arranged parking facilities along with other basic amenities like water, toilets, and ambulances, with the assistance of the Delhi municipal administration.
According to the SKM, extensive preparations are underway to ensure the substantial participation of farmers in the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’. In a press release by the farm body, it was stated that the Mahapanchayat would adopt a ‘Sankalp Patra’ or ‘letter of resolution’ to escalate the struggle against the “pro-corporate, communal, dictatorial policies of the Modi Government” and to safeguard farming, food security, livelihoods, and the people from corporate exploitation.
