Following their inaugural Republic Day parade, the Delhi Police’s first all-female contingent celebrated on Friday by giving out candy and dancing to the beat of the drums in honor of their historic accomplishment.
Social media users were thrilled to see a video of the contingent members dancing and waving their arms while wearing their uniforms to the music of their band.
“It was a goosebumps moment for all of us. As our contingent reached the Red Fort, we were welcomed by our senior officials with great zeal,” Shweta Sugathan, 2018 batch IPS officer who led the contingent in the parade, told PTI.
For the first time, the crowd at Kartavya Path let out a loud cheer when the Delhi Police’s all-female contingent marched on the 75th Republic Day.
According to Delhi Police spokesman Suman Nalwa, history was made today when the first all-female contingent and the band marched on Kartavya Path in honor of Republic Day.
“The glass ceiling has been broken in this domain too. A scintillating finale of the hard work put up by the whole team of fourth Battalion and the coaches along with the contingent participants are worthy of applause,” she said.

Celebrations broke out as soon as the team was greeted by senior police officers following the march. The contingent’s members can be seen dancing to the sounds of drum beats and passing out candy in various videos that the Delhi Police has released.
Sugathan mentioned that her relatives were there to see the procession. Sugathan went on, “Everyone in our department was super excited.”
Wearing red “safas,” the Delhi Police contingent consisted of one female gazetted officer, three female sub-inspectors, 44 female head-constables, and one hundred female constables.
When a female officer led the male soldiers for the first time in 2023, she also led the male marching contingents. One notable distinction of the Delhi Police contingent is that it has marched in every Republic Day parade since the nation’s independence on January 26, 1950.
It was named the best marching contingent for the fifteenth time; the final award was given in 2021. “Shanti, Seva aur Nyaya” (peace, service, and justice) is its motto.
Participating in the march was the all-female Delhi Police pipe band, under the direction of bandmaster Sub-inspector Ruyangunuo Kense. Additionally, this was the first time a female officer had led the band in the history of Delhi Police.

A female-focused pipe band was admitted into the parade the previous year, but the inspector was male.
This year, there were 81 female constables and four female sub-inspectors in the Delhi Police Brass and Pipe Band. The ‘Delhi Police Song’ was played by the band.
Eighty percent of the members of the band are from the northeastern states.
To “bridge the gap” between the force and the people from that region, the Delhi Police recruits people from the eight northeastern states.
