Delhi Police Identify 30 In Turkman Gate Stone Pelting Case

Investigators in Delhi have identified 30 people involved in the stone pelting and violence that erupted during the municipal corporation’s demolition drive near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in Turkman Gate.

Evidence included CCTV footage, police body-worn cameras, and viral videos from the site.

Officials confirmed that Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi will be summoned for questioning. Authorities allege that the MP was present near the site before the violence began, despite repeated requests from senior police officers to stay away.

Police have arrested five individuals so far in connection with the stone pelting. Teams are conducting raids to bring the remaining identified suspects into custody.

The accused include Mohd Shahawaz, Mohd Aarib, Mohd Kasif, Mohd Adnan, and Mohd Kaif, all residents of Chandni Mahal

Reports indicate that unrest began at 12:40 AM when police started barricading the encroached land.

A group of 30–35 people gathered, shouting slogans and obstructing officers attempting the demolition.

Despite repeated warnings, the crowd refused to disperse under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Instead, protesters escalated their actions, pelting stones and damaging barricades.

Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, drawing criticism for the assault on officers.

Documents show that the mob obstructed and attacked police personnel, broke barricades and a loudspeaker, and hurled stones. Several officers, including the SHO, sustained injuries and sought treatment at LNJP Hospital.

Authorities regained control only after additional forces intervened, allowing them to remove illegal structures surrounding the mosque.

Police have registered the FIR under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 221 (obstructing public servant), 132 (assault to deter a public servant), 121 (voluntarily causing hurt), 191 (rioting), 223(A) (disobedience to lawful orders), and Section 3(5) (joint liability).

Authorities have also invoked provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
