Delhi Police detained around 200 people at Jantar Mantar and nearby areas on Saturday as members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) gathered for a planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, officials said.
Police tightened security across the National Capital ahead of the demonstration.
Officers checked vehicles at Delhi’s borders and deployed personnel wearing body cameras to record potential incidents.
Earlier, police detained CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and party spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka at Indira Gandhi International Airport upon their arrival in Delhi for the protest.
Officers boarded Dipke’s aircraft after it landed and detained all three members.
Dipke later shared a video in which he said, “I have come here to be arrested; arrest me.”
The CJP confirmed the detentions in a post on social media, stating, “ABHIJEET DIPKE, SAURAV DAS AND ASHUTOSH RANKA DETAINED FROM INSIDE THEIR FLIGHT.”

Reports suggest a detention involving social media influencer Dhruv Rathee at his residence in Gurugram.
Around 50 plainclothes police personnel reportedly arrived at his home at approximately 08:00 AM and took him into custody.
Authorities also strengthened security outside the residences of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Police deployed drones to monitor key locations and conducted security marches.
Security arrangements included the closure of several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House.
Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel also remained deployed at New Delhi Railway Station, where drones monitored the premises.
