The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday uncovered an extensive LPG hoarding operation in Ranhola, Outer Delhi, invoking provisions under the Essential Commodities Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Delhi Police seized 459 empty cylinders, comprising 175 Bharat Petroleum and 284 Indane units, during a targeted enforcement drive.
Officials confirmed that the Western Range-I unit executed the procedures following precise intelligence inputs.
The raid exposed an organised system involving unauthorised storage and suspected black marketing of LPG cylinders.
Officials noted that the operation reflected a calculated exploitation of the public distribution framework.
To address apprehensions over perceived LPG shortages, despite official assurances of adequate availability, the Crime Branch constituted a specialised team.
Inspector Pradeep led the unit, assisted by Sub-Inspectors Dharmendra, Naresh Kumar, and Mohit Batan, under the supervision of ACP Raj Kumar.
Acting swiftly, the team raided HP Balaji Gas Agency on Nilothi Road in Ranhola village.
Investigators found the proprietor, Susheel Kumar Singhal, allegedly involved in illegal stockpiling.
Officials immediately summoned Food Supply Officer Jag Pravesh, who initiated statutory proceedings at the site.
Authorities later handed over the seized cylinders on a superdari to Sanjay Kumar Mehta, Sales Area Manager at Hindustan Petroleum Gas, after completing procedural formalities.
Police registered FIR No. 62/2026 under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act and Section 61(2) of the BNS. The inquiry remains ongoing.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused misused his agency position to accumulate commercial cylinders unlawfully.
Investigators suspect he intended to engineer artificial scarcity and sell supplies at inflated prices.
Officials stated that the stock was concealed as routine inventory, indicating a structured and deliberate scheme.
