Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) is set to experience more rain and stormy weather on Friday, following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The warning forecasts thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 km/h, raising concerns over possible disruptions.
The IMD predicts partly cloudy skies throughout the day with light to moderate rainfall across various parts of the city.
Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will range between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius.
Officials upgraded the alert from yellow to orange after observing intensified weather activity.
On Thursday, parts of Delhi already faced light showers and gusty winds gusting up to 60 km/h.
On Friday, wind speeds could increase further to 70 km/h, according to the IMD, heightening the chances of waterlogging, traffic disturbances, and minor damage to infrastructure.
The orange alert indicates potentially severe weather conditions likely to disrupt daily life and urges the public to exercise caution and take necessary safety measures.

The alert typically corresponds to heavy rainfall expected to exceed 115.6 mm and up to 204.4 mm within 24 hours.
Delhi has already recorded an unprecedented 186.4 mm of rainfall so far this May, making it the wettest May on record for the city.
The early arrival of the southwest monsoon, which reached Kerala on 24 May—a week ahead of schedule—and Mumbai on 26 May, well before its usual onset on 11 June, has caused this unusual rainfall.
While the monsoon generally arrives in Delhi around 27 June, the IMD has not yet confirmed this year’s arrival date.
“We are closely monitoring the progress,” an IMD official said.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category on Thursday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) rising to 151 at 4 PM, up from 133 the previous day at the same time.
Evening showers on Thursday provided temporary relief but were not heavy enough to substantially reduce humidity and heat.
The IMD advises residents to stay indoors during stormy spells, avoid taking shelter under trees, and secure loose outdoor items to prevent accidents or property damage.
