Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu late on Thursday evening and promptly chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Raj Bhawan.
The meeting focused on ensuring a completely peaceful Amarnath Yatra while maintaining the highest level of vigilance and preparedness.
The security review session lasted nearly one hour and 30 minutes and included the participation of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, civil administration, and intelligence agencies.
Amit Shah took a detailed review of all security arrangements and readiness for the sacred pilgrimage scheduled to begin on 3 July and conclude on 9 August after 38 days.
Shah emphasised the need to maintain utmost vigilance throughout the Yatra to ensure its peaceful completion.
He assured that both the Central and Union Territory administrations would leave no stone unturned to provide pilgrims with all necessary facilities.
In a statement posted on X, he said, “Chaired a review meeting for the Amarnath Pilgrimage and evaluated the security arrangements and preparedness meant for the pilgrims. Instructed to maintain the utmost vigilance and ensure the seamless completion of the sacred journey.”
“Central govt and J&K administration will leave no stone unturned to facilitate the pilgrims with all necessary facilities,” the post added.
The meeting also thoroughly discussed recent security challenges, particularly in the aftermath of the 22 April terror attack at Pahalgam.
Security agencies updated the Home Minister on ongoing operations aimed at zero tolerance towards infiltration and terrorism.
Sources revealed that Amit Shah directed intensified search operations targeting terrorists, including those responsible for the Pahalgam attack.
He noted the presence of terrorists, mainly Pakistani nationals, in hilly areas such as Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, and Poonch.
Security forces have reportedly established several contacts with these terrorists over recent months.
On Friday, Amit Shah will visit the border district of Poonch, where he will address civilians affected by Pakistani shelling.
He is also scheduled to meet Border Security Force soldiers at their Khanetar Unit Headquarters, visit damaged religious sites, and distribute appointment letters to the next of kin of those killed in the attacks.
