Indian Parliamentary Delegation Arrives In Colombia To Strengthen Anti-Terrorism Diplomacy

An all-party Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor arrived in Colombia on Thursday night, continuing India’s diplomatic outreach in Latin America after concluding its visit to Panama.

The delegation, however, aims to underscore India’s firm stance against terrorism and enhance bilateral relations with strategic partners in the region.

Productive Start In Colombia

Tharoor shared an update from Bogota via social media, highlighting the productive beginning of the visit.

“Our Colombia visit got underway today with a briefing to the delegation from our Ambassador, Vanlalhuma, followed by a well-attended press interaction with more than a dozen local media outlets. I then did an interview with Colombian journalist Juan Camillo Ramirez. Getting the message out where it needs to be heard!” he posted on X.

The delegation includes MPs Sarfraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Milind Murli Deora, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya, and is accompanied by Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

Their visit, scheduled from May 29 to 31, forms part of the Government of India’s broader diplomatic initiative, Operation Sindoor.

Engagements And Objectives

Over the next two days, the delegation will meet Colombian lawmakers, ministers, policy think tanks, and media representatives.

Their objective is to communicate India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and deepen cooperation with Colombia on security and diplomatic fronts.

The Indian delegation followed this visit with an earlier leg in Panama, where Ambassador Sumit Seth hosted them.

Reflecting on the Panama visit, Tharoor noted, “Our trip ended with a spectacular reception hosted by Ambassador Seth for the diplomatic corps and influential Panamanian personalities. The Foreign Minister and Vice-Minister Carlos Hoyos expressed strong sympathy for India, supporting our fight against terrorism and our efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation.”

Highlighting India’s Global Anti-Terrorism Stance

The delegation’s Latin America tour, however,  serves to showcase India’s resolute position against terrorism worldwide, with particular emphasis on Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism.

This diplomatic outreach aims to foster stronger partnerships and garner international support for India’s security challenges.
