Delhi commuters will now have to pay more for metro travel as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) implemented revised fares from Monday, 25 August.
This is the first increase since 2017, following the recommendations of the Fourth Fare Fixation Committee.
The hike is modest across most routes, ranging from ₹1 to ₹4, while fares on the Airport Express Line have risen by up to ₹5.
According to DMRC, the revision aims to balance affordability for passengers with the financial requirements of maintaining and upgrading the network.
Under the updated structure, passengers travelling between 0 and 2 kilometres will now pay ₹11, compared to the earlier ₹10.
The maximum fare has risen from ₹60 to ₹64 for journeys over 32 kilometres.
The new fares apply across Delhi’s expansive metro system, which covers more than 390 kilometres and connects over 285 stations in the National Capital Region.
Taking to X, the DMRC posted, “The passenger fares of the Delhi Metro services have been revised with effect from today, that is, 25th August 2025 (Monday) onwards. The increase is minimal, ranging from ₹ 1 to ₹ 4 only depending on the distance of travel (upto ₹5 for the Airport Express Line).”

The new fare slabs, effective from 25th August 2025, are as follows:
Weekend and Holiday Discounts
To cushion the impact on occasional travellers, the corporation has introduced special discounted fares for Sundays and national holidays.
Passengers travelling up to 5 kilometres will pay ₹11, while those on the longest routes will pay no more than ₹54 on these days.
Officials emphasised that these measures ease the burden on families, students and casual commuters while ensuring continued revenue growth for metro operations.
The fare hike has sparked criticism on social media, with many commuters expressing frustration at the timing of the revision amid rising living costs.
Several users have demanded greater transparency on how DMRC will allocate the additional funds, particularly for infrastructure development and service quality.
Despite the backlash, DMRC officials insist that the revision is essential to maintain operational sustainability and service efficiency, as well as to finance future network expansion.
The Delhi Metro continues to serve as the backbone of the capital’s public transport system, carrying millions of passengers daily.
