Delhi Metro – the heart and soul of transportation in the National Capital Region (NCR) is now allowing its passengers to carry two sealed liquor bottles on all routes of the Metro. As per the data till May 2023, around 5 million people travel via Delhi Metro on a daily basis. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is the public sector company that is responsible for the operation of Delhi Metro and the above announcement was made by DMRC only. Earlier, the carrying of liquor bottles was permitted only on the Airport Express Line.
Safety guidelines by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation
The new policy does come with some safety guidelines so that the comfort of all the passengers stays the same. First and the most important guideline says that the consumption of alcohol is still strictly prohibited. Also, emphasis is laid on the fact that only sealed bottles are allowed. Breaking any of the rules can land passengers in serious trouble. They might be imposed with fines or worse, they will be denial of entry. It is important to note that the bottles must be carried for personal consumption at the destination only and not for sale purposes in the metro.
DMRC issues a statement
There has been a substantial shift in the metro’s policy as a result of the DMRC’s decision to let travelers transport up to two sealed liquor bottles. To maintain discipline, the DMRC statement read, “Metro passengers are requested to maintain proper decorum while traveling. In case, any passenger is found behaving in an indecent manner under the influence of alcohol, suitable action shall be taken under the relevant provisions of law.” After this new change in Delhi Metro policy, passengers will be able to carry booze across Delhi-NCR.
