Delhi Infra Push: PM Modi Targets Past Governments; Renews Swadeshi Call

PM Narendra Modi on Sunday criticised previous governments for Delhi’s weak infrastructure and social amenities. He said their failures left the national capital ‘lagging’ on key growth parameters.

Taking a veiled swipe at the AAP government, PM Modi recalled how the then Delhi CM had accused Haryana of polluting the Yamuna to harm Delhi’s residents.

“They tried to pit one set of people against another instead of working for Delhi’s development,” he said.

BJP Government’s Focus on Upliftment

PM Modi stressed that, unlike previous dispensations, the BJP government’s motto is the upliftment of Delhi and the NCR region. He assured that his administration would continue to push reforms aimed at improving the lives of residents.

The Prime Minister expressed dismay over the former Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, which allowed the imprisonment of sanitation workers for absenteeism. He contrasted this with the current government’s focus on reforms and people-first policies.

Highlighting upcoming initiatives, Prime Minister Modi said, “Our focus is to ease and improve the lives of people, and we will continue to do so. This Diwali will become special for Delhi residents with the next generation reforms in GST.”

PM Modi renewed his call for Swadeshi by urging citizens and traders to buy and sell only Made in India products. He said this would strengthen the economy and empower ordinary Indians.

He cited the revival of Khadi, noting that its sales have grown seven times since 2014, and highlighted how India now manufactures and exports millions of mobile phones, replacing dependence on foreign brands.

UPI as a Global Achievement

Praising India’s digital revolution, PM Modi pointed to Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as the world’s largest digital payment system. He said this innovation showcases India’s capacity for technology leadership.

The Prime Minister called on shopkeepers and traders to prioritise Swadeshi products over profit margins, saying that every purchase of local goods helps the economy.

“This festive season, we should consume and share Made in India products so that money remains within the country and strengthens our economy,” he urged.
