The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and the Indian Air Force. This comes in response to a petition demanding the filling of vacancies in the Air Force’s flying branch. The petitioner, a woman, seeks to understand why suitable female candidates are not being appointed.
Court Questions Air Force’s Vacancy Allocation
Justices Rekha Palli and Shailinder Kaur asked the authorities to respond to the petition. They hope the Air Force will review why qualified women are not appointed when vacancies remain unfilled by male candidates. The court will next hear the matter on September 27.
The petitioner, who applied to join the Air Force as a pilot, followed an advertisement from May 17, 2023. She claimed that while vacancies exist, her application is not considered because the female slots are already filled.
Counsel Challenges Reservation of Vacancies
The petitioner’s counsel stated they do not challenge the advertisement’s reserved percentage for women. However, they argue that remaining vacancies should be filled by competent women who passed the selection tests. The court’s order underscores the need for an impartial review of the hiring process.
