New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the summons issued by the Rouse Avenue Court in a criminal defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The court has refused to quash the case and ordered Kejriwal, Atishi, and others to appear before the trial court.
Justice Anoop Kumar Mehdiratta issued the order. The case dates back to 2019 when Delhi BJP leader Rajiv Babbar accused Kejriwal, Atishi, Manoj Kumar, and Sushil Kumar Gupta of inciting people against the BJP on social media. Babbar alleged that Kejriwal falsely claimed the BJP had removed names of Agrawal community voters from the Delhi voter list.
The Delhi High Court had reserved its decision on May 28 after hearing arguments from both parties. Kejriwal and other Aam Aadmi Party leaders had criticized the BJP, claiming that the party’s policies, such as demonetization and GST, harmed traders and led to the removal of names of Baniya voters.
The court’s latest order requires Kejriwal and the others to face the trial court on the defamation charges.
