Delhi High Court Dismisses Petition To Cancel Modi’s Candidacy; Allegations Deemed Baseless

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition aimed at canceling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s candidacy from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Justice Sachin Dutta, in rejecting the petition, deemed the allegations made by the petitioner as careless and baseless, driven by ulterior motives.

Captain Deepak Kumar had filed the petition, alleging that Modi and his associates had conspired to jeopardize national security by plotting to crash an Air India flight in 2018, during which he served as the pilot. Additionally, he claimed that Modi had submitted a false affidavit. The petition also called for the cancellation of the candidacies of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The petitioner asserted that Modi had obstructed the investigation into serious allegations against him and his associates. Moreover, due to his belonging to the Scheduled Caste, he purportedly faced economic and social boycott from Modi’s associates. The petitioner accused Modi of exploiting his position as Prime Minister to shield himself and his associates from legal scrutiny. Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and their associates were labeled as a criminal element detrimental to Indian society, according to the petition. The petitioner advocated for their classification as rogue elements and their disqualification for providing a false oath or affirmation to uphold the Constitution as candidates for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general election.

Furthermore, the petition alleged that Modi intervened in the sale process of Air India Limited, playing an active role and tampering with evidence, resulting in the cancellation of the petitioner’s pilot license and rating by manipulating his service record.
