PM Modi Begins 5-Nation Tour: My Visits Will Reinforce Bonds

PM Modi left for Accra on Wednesday, starting a historic five-nation tour to boost India’s global partnerships. The tour covers Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, focusing on ties with the Global South and Atlantic cooperation.

Ghana: Strengthening Africa ties and regional leadership

President John Dramani Mahama has invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Ghana from July 2 to 3. He called Ghana a valued Global South partner and a key player in the African Union and ECOWAS.

The visit will focus on strengthening cooperation in investment, energy, health, security, and development.

The Prime Minister said he was honoured to address Ghana’s Parliament, reaffirming India’s ties with the West African nation.

From July 3 to 4, Prime Minister Modi will visit Trinidad & Tobago, a country with deep cultural and ancestral connections to India. He will meet President Kangaloo and Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar, now in her second term.

PM Modi reflected on the 180-year-old Indian diaspora in Trinidad & Tobago, calling the visit a moment to “rejuvenate the special bonds of ancestry and kinship.”

Argentina: First bilateral visit in nearly six decades

PM Modi will visit Buenos Aires, marking the first bilateral trip to Argentina by an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years. He described Argentina as a ‘key economic partner in Latin America’ and a collaborator in the G20.

Prime Minister Modi will meet President Javier Milei to boost ties in agriculture, minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.

Brazil: BRICS Summit and bilateral state visit

On July 6–7, PM Modi will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio, reaffirming India’s founding role in the bloc.

He stated, “Together, we strive for a more peaceful, equitable, just, democratic and balanced multipolar world order.”

Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with world leaders at the summit before heading to Brasilia for the first Indian PM visit in nearly 60 years.

PM Modi will work with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to elevate cooperation and prioritise the Global South’s development agenda.

Prime Minister Modi will conclude his tour in Namibia, meeting President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and addressing its Parliament.

Describing Namibia as ‘a trusted partner’, PM Modi emphasised shared values rooted in the struggle against colonialism.

PM Modi confident of tour’s strategic outcomes

Before departing, Prime Minister Modi voiced optimism about the tour’s impact. He said, “I am confident that my visits to the five countries will reinforce our bonds of friendship across the Global South.”

He added, “They will strengthen our partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The visit is expected to boost India’s stature as a global partner and amplify its influence in multilateral forums.
