The Delhi High Court recently declined to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed against YouTube vloggers accused of uploading videos of women and minor girls without their consent. The PIL was withdrawn after a bench consisting of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela expressed hesitation in considering the petition.
The petition, filed by three individuals, sought legal action against vloggers who uploaded unauthorized videos of women and minor girls and requested the permanent blocking of their accounts. The petitioners’ lawyer stated that the PIL was being withdrawn, but they sought the freedom to pursue appropriate proceedings under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
The bench acknowledged this request and disposed of the writ petition, while clarifying that the rights and arguments of all parties involved remain open for future proceedings.
