Delhi HC Upholds NIA Remand Of UK Citizen Indrapal Singh Gaba In 2023 Anti-India Protest Case

The Delhi High Court refused to grant relief to UK citizen Indrapal Singh Gaba, upholding the remand order in a case by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his involvement in an anti-India demonstration. The NIA arrested Gaba at the Attari border as he returned from Pakistan after visiting Sri Darbar Sahib. According to NIA officials, Gaba, originally from Delhi and now a British citizen, played an active role in the violence at the Indian High Commission in London in March 2023, allegedly supporting the Khalistani separatist agenda under the direction of Avtar Singh Khanda.

The NIA filed a chargesheet against Gaba in Patiala House Court, detailing his role in the March 22, 2023 demonstration at the Indian High Commission in London. The agency accused him of participating in activities promoting separatism. Officials stated that the violence was part of a broader plot to harm the Indian High Commission and its officials.

Court Cites Links to Conspiracy and Retaliation

Investigations reveal that the attacks on the Indian High Commission in London on March 19 and March 22 were part of a planned conspiracy, reportedly in retaliation for the Punjab Police’s actions against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh. The NIA reported that Gaba was linked to plans for serious attacks on the Indian High Commission.

The Delhi High Court’s decision to uphold the NIA remand confirms ongoing legal proceedings against Gaba, emphasizing the NIA’s stance on taking strong measures against separatist activities.
