Delhi Government Announces ₹10 Lakh Compensation For Rainfall Victims’ Families

Delhi’s Minister Atishi recently announced compensation of ₹10 lakh for families of victims who lost their lives due to severe rainfall and subsequent drowning incidents in the capital city amidst the recent onset of monsoons. Atishi conveyed this decision in an official statement to the revenue department following heavy rains on June 28.

The national capital experienced an unprecedented 228mm of rainfall within 24 hours, leading to severe flooding and multiple drowning incidents. Minister Atishi reported that the heavy downpour resulted in several deaths due to extreme weather conditions.

In her directive to the revenue department, Minister Atishi stated, “I direct that the families of all those who lost their lives shall receive compensation of ₹10 lakh.” She further instructed the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of Revenue to collaborate closely with area hospitals and Delhi Police to identify victims and ensure swift compensation disbursal on behalf of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). “ACS Revenue is directed to identify those who lost their lives with support from area hospitals and Delhi Police, and promptly provide them the aforementioned compensation on behalf of GNCTD.”

Minister Atishi also addressed the situation on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Several deaths were reported on June 28th due to extreme rainfall of 228mm in 24 hours. Families of all those who lost their lives will receive compensation of ₹10 lakhs. Directions have been given to expedite the compensation to the grieving families.”

This initiative aims to swiftly support affected families and mitigate the impact of the recent natural calamity.
