Heavy rain fell in Delhi on Saturday, flooding numerous areas of the national capital, and the Met Office predicts additional rains for the rest of the day.
This was the season’s first big rainstorm. An ‘orange’ and ‘red’ weather alerts are in effect for additional showers in different parts of Delhi on Saturday.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Sunday.
The main weather station in Delhi, Safdarjung Observatory, recorded 98.7 mm of rain until 2.30 p.m. The Ridge Observatory reported 111.4 mm of rain.
The early-morning rain hampered many commuters’ attempts to reach their destinations.
Since the morning, the PWD has received 15 complaints of waterlogging.
A PWD official said, “Apart from these, we also received complaints about waterlogging on other stretches that are under the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) or other agencies. We forwarded those complaints. The situation is under control so far. The road around Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College in Delhi University’s north campus witnessed waterlogging, causing inconvenience to commuters”.

The Met Office expected a gloomy sky with heavy rain throughout the day.
According to the report, the city had the lowest temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the seasonal normal.
The highest temperature is expected to be approximately 30 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity was measured at 96%.
