The counting of the votes for the Delhi assembly polls will come out today. The result day will be decided if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will retain power for the fourth consecutive term or the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) will make a comeback after 27 years in Delhi. Meanwhile, the Congress is determined to regain the lost ground.
As the countdown to result day begins, several key constituencies and candidates are drawing attention, making it more interesting. This election is one of the most closely watched elections in recent years.
The counting process will begin at 8 AM with early trends likely to start coming in from the initial hours. As per the Election Commission, the voter turnout was 60.54 percent on Wednesday.
Freebies Ahead Of Delhi Election 2025
To achieve victory in the National capital, the three parties, the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress are going to great lengths. AAP putting out its strategy by focussing on welfare, economic growth, and infrastructural development in the city.
The BJP, a key contender in this three-way election, is looking to capitalize on its recent successes in Haryana and Maharashtra. The party managed to retain both states by implementing welfare initiatives such as the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ in Maharashtra and a variety of measures targeting the OBC community and Agniveers in Haryana. The BJP hopes to replicate this success in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Congress, aiming to make a strong return after a decade, has unveiled five key promises aimed at attracting women voters, unemployed youth, and senior citizens.
New Delhi: Key Constituencies To Watch
Arvind Kejriwal is once again contesting from the New Delhi seat, continuing his streak in the last three Assembly elections. He is up against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit.
Having won the seat by a margin of 21,687 votes in 2020, Kejriwal is focusing on AAP’s welfare initiatives, particularly a Rs 2,100 monthly allowance for women, as a key part of his election campaign.
Moreover, Amanatullah Khan of AAP is running for the Okhla seat for the third consecutive time. He faces Congress’ Ariba Khan in this election. In both 2015 and 2020, Khan secured victories with margins of over 60,000 votes, defeating BJP’s Braham Singh.
Vote Share Form Muslim Dominated Areas
The Muslims account for 12.9 percent of Delhi’s population, in North East and Central Delhi they account for 29.3 percent and 33.4 percent, respectively.
There are 23 seats in Delhi, where Muslims make up at least 10% of the population. Between 2015 and 2020, while the AAP’s vote share in these seats remained stable at around 55%, the BJP’s rose from 29.44% to 34.57%, and the Congress’s fell from 12.81% and 5.57%.
However, in 20 of these 23 seats, the BJP saw its vote share increase between 2015 and 2020. The AAP, meanwhile, saw its vote share drop in nine of these seats.
Meanwhile, it is still neck to neck battle for the parties to regain power in the National Capital.
