The challenges facing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) continue unabated. In response to a defamation petition filed by Delhi BJP’s media chief, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the Rouse Avenue Court has summoned Delhi Education Minister Atishi to appear on June 29. The criminal defamation complaint was filed by Kapoor against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Education Minister Atishi. Kapoor’s complaint alleges that AAP leaders falsely accused the BJP of attempting to bribe AAP MLAs and destabilize the Delhi government.
Kapoor asserts in his petition that the AAP leaders have no evidence to support their claims of BJP’s attempts to lure AAP MLAs with bribes. He contends that these allegations were made to divert attention from the Delhi Liquor Policy issue and deflect criticism from the ongoing investigation by the Enforcement Directorate into AAP.

The complaint references a tweet by Kejriwal on January 27, 2024, and a press conference held by Atishi on April 2, 2024. In the tweet, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP had contacted seven AAP MLAs, offering them Rs 25 crore each to switch parties and bring down the Delhi government. Kapoor argues that these allegations are baseless and were intended to mislead the public and tarnish the BJP’s reputation.
