On Sunday, a building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, prompting a rescue operation after officials reported that people could be trapped beneath the rubble.
The structure came down near Shiv Mandir in the Moti Bagh locality. The Delhi Fire Brigade received information about the collapse at around 01:30 PM.
Station Officer Narender arrived at the location at approximately 01:50 PM and reported that some people were believed to be trapped. Following his assessment, additional personnel and firefighting equipment were dispatched to support the rescue effort.
An SWT, Big Fire Tender (BFT), Officer-in-Charge, DO Mukesh Verma, and Station Officer Manoj were among those sent to the site.
Delhi Police said teams were carrying out rescue work and that officials would establish the exact number of people trapped after assessing the situation.
The collapse follows a similar incident in Karol Bagh last month. A two-storey building collapsed during demolition work. Four labourers were caught in the collapse, leaving one dead and three injured.
Police said a private contractor hired by the owners was carrying out the demolition without the required permission.
Sheikh Shamshad died from his injuries. Md Ayub suffered a head injury and a fractured right hand. He was reported to be in critical condition at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Sheikh Saidul sustained limb injuries. He was treated at Jeevan Mala Hospital. Rafik-Ul suffered minor injuries and later returned home.
The building owners and contractor were, however, detained for questioning as police and fire personnel continued rescue efforts.
