Delhi Assembly To Discuss Mustafabad Name Change And CAG Report On DTC

The Delhi Assembly will convene today to discuss two key issues: the proposed renaming of the Mustafabad Assembly constituency and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit report on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Delhi Assembly To Table CAG Report On DTC

On March 24, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabled the CAG report on DTC, which highlights significant operational inefficiencies and financial losses within the corporation.

The audit points to various shortcomings in fleet management, revenue generation, and operational sustainability. It criticizes the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to address these issues effectively.

The report emphasizes the need for improvements in key operational areas, including adherence to public transport policies.

The Delhi Assembly will further examine the report’s findings and discuss potential solutions to streamline DTC operations.

BJP Pushes For Renaming Mustafabad Constituency

In a separate resolution, BJP MLA and Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht has proposed changing the name of the Mustafabad Assembly constituency to Shiv Vihar.

Bisht, elected Deputy Speaker on February 27, argues that the name change reflects the voters’ sentiments in the constituency.

Mustafabad, a constituency with a significant Muslim population, has been the subject of debate over its name.

Bisht previously suggested renaming it to ‘Shiv Vihar’ or ‘Shiv Puri’ and defended the proposal by claiming, without evidence, that the Hindu community forms a majority in the area.

Bisht won the Mustafabad seat by a margin of 17,578 votes, defeating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan.

AAP MLA To Delhi Government’s Gas Cylinder Issue

In another resolution, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha will bring up the issue of the Delhi government’s initiative to distribute gas cylinders for free on special occasions.

Jha will urge for the continued implementation of the scheme, which has been a key part of the AAP’s welfare programs.

On Thursday, the Delhi Assembly, led by BJP MLA Abhay Verma, passed a motion to dispose of long-pending cases referred to the Committee on Privileges, Committee on Petitions, and Committee on Questions and References from the Sixth and Seventh Legislative Assemblies.

This decision also included the withdrawal of pending cases against Delhi government officials initiated by the sixth and seventh Assemblies.

March 28 is designated for private members’ business, allowing legislators to introduce and debate resolutions and bills.

This session will provide an opportunity for members to address various issues affecting the city and its residents.

The discussions in the Delhi Assembly today are set to have significant implications for both the political landscape and public services in the city.
