Delhi is witnessing an energetic push to update its electoral rolls. Since November 29, the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) has received 4.8 lakh applications for new voter registrations and 82,450 requests for deletions ahead of the Delhi assembly election.
The Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls, with January 1, 2025, as the qualifying date, is in full swing. Officials aim to ensure no eligible voter is left behind.
This extensive exercise, guided by the Election Commission of India, began with house-to-house verification from August 20 to October 18, 2024. Booth Level Officers conducted door-to-door checks to identify new voters, address errors, and remove duplicate or invalid entries.
On October 29, the draft electoral rolls were published, inviting public feedback. Claims and objections were accepted until November 28 and resolved by December 24. The updated final rolls will be published on January 6, 2025.

Since November 29, citizens have submitted 1.71 lakh applications for modifications in addition to new registrations and deletions. The CEO reminded voters to use Form 6 to register and submit necessary documents for verification.
The CEO’s office also warned against holding multiple voter IDs. Filing false information can lead to strict penalties, including imprisonment. Recently, FIRs were filed against eight individuals in the Okhla constituency for submitting fake documents.
To increase young voter enrollment, the CEO held meetings with political parties on multiple dates, urging them to assist in reaching 18- and 19-year-olds. Parties were also invited to flag any issues with the ongoing updates.
For voters needing corrections or deletions, Form-7 is available. Officials emphasized that names will not be removed without thorough checks and proper notification. However, changes will halt ten days after the election schedule is announced.
The CEO office stressed that having a voter ID alone does not guarantee voting rights. Voters must verify their names on the rolls. Those making false declarations during the roll revision could face severe legal consequences, including imprisonment.
As Delhi prepares for a high-stakes election, officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a transparent, inclusive, and fair democratic process.
