Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Greenfield Expressway and Amritsar Bypass were inspected today by Union Minister of Surface Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Apart from Gadkari, Punjab Public Works Department Minister Harbhajan Singh and Member of Parliament, Amritsar, Shri Gurjit Singh Aujla were present during the inspection.

Five freight corridors are being constructed in Punjab at a cost of Rs 29,000 crore. The 669 km expressway between Delhi and Amritsar-Katra is constructed at a cost of Rs 40,000 crore. With its construction, one can reach Amritsar from Delhi in 4 hours and Katra from Delhi in 6 hours. As of now, the distance from Delhi to Katra is 727 km and with the construction of this route the distance will be curtailed by 58 km.

Commencing from KMP in Delhi, the expressway is to pass for 137 km in Haryana, length of this expressway in Punjab is 399 km, of which construction for 296 km is over. The length of the expressway in Jammu and Kashmir is 135 km, of which construction of 120 km is over. In Punjab, this expressway will pass through the industrial areas like Patiala, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Gurudaspur.
Notable feature of this corridor includes the Asia’s longest 1300-meter-long cable-stayed bridge over the Beas River. This expressway will connect the major religious places.
