Deepak Nagar Murder Case: Main Accused Jagat And Harsh Held After Shootout

Police arrested two key accused in the Deepak Nagar murder case after an encounter in Greater Noida’s Ecotech-3 area. Both accused suffered bullet injuries during the exchange of fire and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

According to Central Noida DCP Shailendra Kumar Singh, unidentified assailants shot dead Deepak Nagar in Vedpura village on Wednesday night.

Police had already arrested four accused, Naveen, Abhi alias Abhay, Akash and Moghli alias Pawan, during the investigation.

Police officials said they received information on Thursday afternoon that the main accused, Jagat and Harsh alias Rajesh, were waiting for their associate and another key accused, Preet, in the area.

Acting on the tip-off, police surrounded the location to prevent their escape.

Police said the accused opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliatory action. Bullets injured Jagat and Harsh in their legs, and police shifted both to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators linked the murder to a family rivalry dating back to 2011.

Police said unidentified attackers had killed the fathers of Harsh and Preet in 2011, and investigators had named Deepak Nagar’s father in the case before a court later acquitted him.

Police said one person died in that earlier case, while another received a life sentence.

Investigators suspect Harsh and Preet wanted revenge against Deepak Nagar’s family over the old dispute.

Following Deepak Nagar’s murder, his family members staged a protest on Thursday after the post-mortem examination.

Protesters placed the body on the road and blocked traffic, demanding strict action against all the accused.

The family also demanded police encounters against the remaining accused and bulldozer action against their properties.

Authorities deployed heavy police forces at the protest site to control the situation.

Police officials later convinced the family to proceed with the final rites after several rounds of discussions.

During the encounter, police recovered two country-made pistols, two live cartridges and two empty shells from the arrested accused.

Police said raids were continuing to trace the remaining accused, while further legal action in the case remains underway.
