Three more bodies found as the death toll in the Thane blast rises. The death toll in the blast cum blaze of Amudan Chemical Private Limited Factory in Dombivli town of Thane has risen to 11.
The officials on the spot announced that they had dug out three more bodies on Friday.
The disaster took place in the afternoon of Thursday.
The rescue operation teams such as NDRF, SDRF and fire brigade stopped operation after the dark yesterday.
Teams resumed work on Friday and recovered three more dead bodies from the rubble. 64 other persons were injured and admitted to different hospitals.
Despite firefighters extinguishing the blaze on Thursday, they persisted with cooling operations. The fire’s impact extended over a 2-3 kilometer radius.
The area woke to the smell of burnt chemicals and a layer of smoky ash.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the scene of the tragedy late on Thursday night. He stated that the government intends to move certain dangerous firms to a different area to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Ambadas Danve, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Leader of Opposition (Council) visited the accident site. The opposition leader demanded that authorities book the factory owner on charges of culpable homicide and order a thorough probe into the incident.
The Thane Police filed charges against Malay Mehta and his wife Malati Mehta, who are the owners of the factory.
Authorities booked them under various sections pertaining to negligence, culpable homicide, etc.
