The two leaders greeted each other warmly before beginning discussions focused on strengthening India-Cyprus relations across trade, investment, technology, defence and regional cooperation.

The selfie moment quickly drew attention, adding a personal touch to the high-level diplomatic meeting.

Several global leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, have previously shared similar informal moments with PM Modi during official engagements.

Earlier in the day, President Christodoulides paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also met the Cyprus President and appreciated his positive approach towards strengthening India-Cyprus and India-European Union cooperation.

President Christodoulides arrived in New Delhi on Thursday after completing the Mumbai leg of his India visit.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta welcomed him at the airport with a ceremonial reception and Guard of Honour.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit builds upon the momentum created by PM Modi’s Cyprus visit in 2025 and reflects the shared commitment of both nations to deepen strategic and economic ties.

During his visit, President Christodoulides is also scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Before arriving in Delhi, the Cyprus President visited Mumbai, where he participated in a ceremonial bell-ringing event at the National Stock Exchange alongside senior NSE officials to discuss economic cooperation and investment opportunities between the two countries.
