Cyclone Arnab: Mohan Charan Majhi Says Amit Shah Assured Odisha Of Central Assistance

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured the state of all possible assistance following the impact of Cyclone Arnab across Odisha.

In a post on X, Majhi said he had briefed Shah on the cyclone’s impact, the situation in affected districts and the relief and restoration measures being undertaken by the state government. He thanked the Centre for its support, adding that the assistance would strengthen efforts to protect lives, support affected families and accelerate relief, rehabilitation and restoration work across Odisha.

Earlier in the day, Shah spoke with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Odisha and Chhattisgarh to review the situation following Cyclone Arnab and assure them of the Centre’s assistance.

In a post on X, Shah said National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams had begun rescue and relief operations on a war footing. He added that Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) would soon visit the affected areas to assess the damage and identify further assistance needs.

Cyclone Arnab struck the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28, bringing heavy rainfall that caused severe flooding and landslides in southern Odisha.

The disaster damaged homes, roads and paddy fields, while floodwaters washed away roads and bridges, disrupting connectivity and leaving people stranded in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

Teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Odisha Fire Services, NDRF and other agencies are carrying out rescue and relief operations to reach stranded residents and provide assistance.

The Centre’s support and ongoing rescue operations will help Odisha tackle Cyclone Arnab’s immediate impact, restore essential connectivity, and accelerate relief and rehabilitation for affected communities.
