Cyber Crime Portal Prevented Losses of Rs 3,431 Crore; Addresses Nearly 10 Lakh Complaints

India’s national Cyber Crime reporting portal has successfully saved over Rs 3,431 crore by resolving nearly 10 lakh complaints, according to B L Verma, Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs, in a statement to Parliament on Wednesday.

The Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, launched by the government, plays a key role in addressing and preventing financial Cyber Crimes across the country.

The portal, accessible at cyber crime.Gov.in, allows citizens to report incidents of cyber fraud instantly. This online platform is designed to help victims of financial fraud report their issues quickly, ensuring timely intervention to prevent further losses.

The system is particularly focused on preventing funds from being siphoned off by fraudsters, providing a robust mechanism to combat increasing financial Cyber Crimes.

How Cyber Crime Portal Works?

Once a complaint is filed, the portal automatically routes the case to the relevant state-level law enforcement agencies, who take appropriate action to address and resolve the issue. This streamlined process helps improve the efficiency of Cyber Crime investigations and ensures that cases are handled swiftly at the local level.

In his written reply to the Lok Sabha, Verma highlighted the success of the portal in curbing financial Cyber Crime, stressing its vital role in protecting consumers from online fraud. The portal not only provides a convenient platform for reporting fraud but also serves as a preventive measure by facilitating quicker responses to emerging threats.

To further increase awareness and accessibility, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued advisories to all states and union territories, urging them to publicize the portal and its toll-free helpline number, 1930. This initiative aims to ensure that more citizens are aware of the portal’s services, making it easier for them to report financial fraud and protect themselves from cybercriminals.
