Observed annually on July 27, CRPF Raising Day marks the founding of India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, which celebrates its 88th anniversary this year.
Operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the CRPF safeguards internal security, supports state police, conducts counter-insurgency operations and secures elections. It also includes the RAF and CoBRA specialised units. Since 1939, 2,270 personnel have laid down their lives in service to the nation.
Established as the Crown Representative’s Police in 1939, the force was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force under the CRPF Act of 1949 after Independence.
Today, the CRPF remains one of India’s oldest and most respected security forces, serving the nation with professionalism, discipline and unwavering dedication.
