Trinamool Congress has formally approached the Election Commission of India, alleging misconduct by Central forces in Nandigram, located in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district.
The party submitted a detailed complaint, asserting that CRPF personnel engaged in intimidation and physical assault against residents.
According to the communication sent to the Commission, the party claimed that the Central forces acted under political influence and were being deployed to secure an electoral advantage. It urged immediate intervention to halt such practices.
Reports indicate that multiple incidents of unrest occurred on Tuesday in the Nandigram Assembly constituency, represented by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
In the Kacharpur locality, villagers alleged that CRPF jawans resorted to unprovoked violence. Women residents also staged protests against the alleged actions.
A resident, Khokan Santra, stated that he had returned from Howrah to cast his vote but was allegedly assaulted without warning.
Villagers reported that at least four individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Nandigram Super Speciality Hospital.
In its submission, Trinamool accused the CRPF of excessive force, unlawful intimidation, and physical assault on civilians.
The party cited photographic evidence, describing the conduct as both unlawful and unethical. It emphasised that such behaviour undermines the responsibility of forces tasked with ensuring free and fair elections.
The party also criticised the Union Home Ministry, alleging misuse of central forces for political purposes. It has demanded a show-cause notice against the CRPF, suspension of the personnel involved, and strict measures to prevent recurrence.
The Election Commission is yet to issue an official response.
