CP Thakur-Led Delegation Seeks Renaming Of Munger University After Sri Krishna Singh

A five-member delegation led by former Union Minister and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr CP Thakur met the Governor-cum-Chancellor at Raj Bhavan in Patna and submitted a memorandum seeking the renaming of Munger University after Bihar Kesari Dr Sri Krishna Singh, popularly known as Sri Babu.

The delegation sought qualitative and structural reforms in Bihar’s higher education system.

The delegation included senior BJP leader Deepak Thakur, BJP state executive committee member Saurabh Kumar, noted physician Dr Harshvardhan and senior Janata Dal (United) leader Dr Rahul Parmar.

In the memorandum, Dr CP Thakur highlighted Munger’s association with Sri Krishna Singh, describing the district as his place of work, intellectual base and a significant part of his legacy. He referred to Singh’s close association with the Kharagpur Assembly constituency.

The memorandum highlighted Singh’s role in the abolition of the zamindari system and his efforts to promote social harmony by facilitating the entry of marginalised sections into the Deoghar temple.

The delegation argued that naming Munger University after Sri Krishna Singh would help connect younger generations with his ideals and legacy.

The memorandum called for reforms aimed at improving the quality of higher education in the state. It further sought strict enforcement of a minimum 50 per cent physical attendance of students in classrooms to make teaching and learning more effective.

The delegation further called for the effective utilisation of the newly appointed librarian system and the full activation of well-equipped libraries in universities and colleges. It said stronger use of library resources would help promote a culture of studying reference books and research-oriented self-learning among students.

The Governor, however, considered the issues raised in the memorandum and assured the delegation of positive steps after examining the demands.
