Court To Decide On Closure Of Sexual Exploitation Case Against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh On April 15

The Patiala House Court will deliver its verdict on whether the case against former President of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, involving the alleged sexual exploitation of a minor female wrestler, should be closed.

The court has postponed the hearing until April 15, as the judgment is not yet ready. Delhi Police has the Patiala House Court to close the case. During the previous hearing, the court had mentioned the need for further clarification on the matter.

In June last year, Delhi Police submitted a report to the court, requesting the dismissal of the case filed by the minor wrestler. The report stated that the wrestler was satisfied with the investigation conducted by Delhi Police and did not oppose the closure report that was filed. On August 1, 2023, during a closed-door hearing, the minor wrestler informed the court that she was content with the police’s investigation and the closure report.

In June 2023, Delhi Police submitted a report to the court, seeking the dismissal of the case. This request was based on the shocking claim made by the wrestler’s father, who alleged that he had falsely accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment to take revenge. Both the minor wrestler and her father had recorded in-camera statements, meaning that the proceedings were held privately, with no third parties present.

On July 4, 2023, while hearing the closure report submitted by Delhi Police, the court issued a notice to the complainant, the minor wrestler, regarding the matter. It is noteworthy that on June 15, 2023, Delhi Police submitted a report to the Patiala House Court, exonerating BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The police had requested the court to dismiss the charges under the POCSO Act against Singh and to close the case.

As the case continues to unfold, all eyes are now on the Patiala House Court, awaiting the final decision on whether the case will be dismissed or further action will be taken against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The outcome of this case holds significant implications, not just for the accused but also for the credibility of the legal proceedings and the sensitive nature of such allegations.
