NIPL International Payments Limited (NIPL), the global arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), announced a partnership with UAE-based payment solutions provider Magnati to enhance Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions in the Middle East. The collaboration focuses on enabling QR-based UPI payments at point-of-sale (POS) terminals and expanding the merchant payment network in the UAE for Indian travelers.
The partnership will initially roll out UPI acceptance across Dubai Duty-Free, offering a seamless shopping and payment experience for over 12 million Indian tourists visiting Dubai and the UAE annually.

This initiative aims to integrate UPI, recognized as one of the world’s most successful real-time payment systems, into the global digital payments ecosystem. In December 2024 alone, UPI processed more than 16 billion transactions, highlighting its efficiency and widespread adoption.
By allowing UAE merchants to accept UPI payments, the collaboration provides a critical link between India’s advanced digital payment infrastructure and the global financial network. This move not only benefits Indian travelers but also positions UAE businesses to cater to a growing Indian consumer base, offering convenient and efficient payment solutions.
According to NIPL, this partnership showcases India’s leadership in digital payment innovation on the global stage. It sets a precedent for cross-border payment interoperability, fostering stronger economic and cultural ties between India and the UAE.
The initiative reflects a strategic effort by NPCI International to establish UPI as a benchmark for seamless digital payment solutions, making it easier for Indian consumers to transact abroad while enhancing the global reach of Indian payment technologies.
