Court Records Testimony In Sexual Harassment Case Against Former WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

The Rouse Avenue Court recorded the statement of a woman sub-inspector during the trial of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The sub-inspector had collected photographs from one of the victims, showing Sai Centre Lucknow and Sir Chhotu Ram Stadium Rohtak. She reported issuing a notice to the victim, who refused to help prepare the site plan. Consequently, Inspector Ravi prepared the site plan.

Another prosecution witness, a victim, did not appear due to medical reasons. The court has summoned her to record her statement on August 23.

Court Proceedings and Witness Examination

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Priyanka Rajput oversees the court, which is recording prosecution evidence. The court recorded Sub Inspector Rashmi’s statement, with an Additional Public Prosecutor conducting the examination. Defense lawyer Rajiv Mohan cross-examined the witness. She confirmed she participated in the investigation on senior officers’ orders, despite not being assigned the case. She also reiterated that victim SM refused to assist with the site plan, leading Inspector Ravi to prepare it.

Charges and Trial Update

The court has called victim SM to provide evidence. Earlier, the court recorded constable Mukesh Kumar’s statement and directed the recording of prosecution witnesses’ statements and the trial’s commencement against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar.

On May 21, the court formally charged Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar. Both denied all allegations and requested a trial. On May 10, the court ordered charges against them, finding sufficient evidence for sexual harassment of five women wrestlers and outraging the modesty of a woman.

The court charged Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under Sections 354 and 354A of the IPC. It also framed charges under Section 506 (Part 1) based on allegations from two women. The court acquitted him of charges from a sixth wrestler.

The court also charged Vinod Tomar under Section 506 (Part 1) of the IPC based on allegations from a woman.
