Panic has gripped the Bhadwa Prajapati Basti in Saidabad block, located in the trans-Ganga area, where four people have died within a week due to consuming contaminated water from a well.
The situation remains dire, with more than half a dozen villagers in serious condition.
After persistent pleas from the villagers, a health team finally arrived at the scene, distributing medicines to those affected.
According to official records from health authorities, the victims who succumbed to complications after drinking the contaminated water include Sanjana (3), Diwakar (10), Channar Musahar (55), and Mooti Devi (70).
Several other villagers, including Satyam, Sundaram, Dilkhush, Deepanshu, Sangeeta, Sintu, Shabbu, Anand, Ritesh, Ranjit, Kusum, Lakshmi, Sanjana, Prakash, Garima, Sanjit, Lalit, Urmila, Jeet Lal, Shiv, Akash, and Akanksha, have admitted themselves to private hospitals for treatment.
Upon receiving reports of the contaminated water, the health team distributed medicines and ORS solutions to the patients.
However, the outbreak continues unabated.
The village relies on a single well for its water supply, which has become contaminated due to the failure to add bleaching powder.
The health team and the village head caused this crisis by neglecting to take timely action despite receiving notifications about the issue.
The health team has now established a camp in the village to monitor the situation, examine the residents, and provide necessary medical aid.
They have assured the villagers that special monitoring will be conducted for the next seven days.
In response to the crisis, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) said that the team is addressing the matter and that all patients will receive the necessary treatment soon.
