Amid growing controversy over the actions of the Waqf Board, a viral claim has surfaced on social media suggesting that the Waqf Board has staked a claim to the iconic Siddhi Vinayak Temple in Dadar, Mumbai. This claim has sparked intense debate, with various stakeholders, including temple officials and political leaders, weighing in on the matter.
Temple Treasurer Dismisses Waqf Board’s Alleged Claim
In response to the viral news, Pawan Tripathi, the Treasurer of the Siddhi Vinayak Temple Society, firmly rejected the claim. Speaking out against the rumors, Tripathi stated, “Siddhi Vinayak Temple is the pride of Maharashtra. No board can claim ownership over this sacred temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This temple has always belonged to the devotees of Lord Ganapati and will continue to do so.”

Tripathi emphasized the temple’s significance, not just for the people of Mumbai, but for Hindus worldwide. “This temple is not only a place of religious worship, but also a symbol of faith and devotion for Hindus across the globe. The Siddhi Vinayak Temple is a matter of immense pride for Maharashtra,” he added, rejecting any claims of external control over the temple.
Waqf Board’s Alleged Claims Spark Broader Debate
The viral claims regarding the Waqf Board’s involvement with the Siddhi Vinayak Temple come on the heels of earlier controversies surrounding the board’s alleged claims over other historical sites.
Recently, there have been reports suggesting that the Waqf Board had asserted ownership over forts and historical sites linked to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, including Vishalgarh Fort. These reports have fueled further speculation and concern about the Waqf Board’s intentions with regards to other cultural and religious landmarks.
Aditya Thackeray Denies Waqf Board’s Involvement
Political figures have also weighed in on the issue, with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray addressing the controversy. Thackeray dismissed the allegations, stating that the Waqf Board has not made any such claims on the Siddhi Vinayak Temple. “There is no truth to these rumors. The Waqf Board has not asserted any ownership over the Siddhi Vinayak Temple,” he said.
Thackeray further accused the BJP of spreading these rumors, suggesting that the ruling party was behind the false narrative. “These are mere rumors being spread by the BJP to create unnecessary controversy,” he added, calling for an end to the sensationalization of the issue.
