In a significant move ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Haryana, the Congress party unveiled its detailed manifesto titled ‘Haath Badlega Halaat’ on Saturday.
The manifesto outlines a wide range of welfare initiatives aimed at farmers, women, employees, and the youth, with the aim of addressing key social issues in the state.
The launch event, attended by prominent leaders including former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and the state party president Udai Bhan, showcased the party’s commitment to delivering substantial benefits to the residents of Haryana.
Spanning 40 pages, the manifesto promises several key initiatives, including free medical treatment up to Rs 25 lakh and a monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 for women.
The party has also committed to securing water from the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, a vital resource for the region.
With elections for the 90-member Assembly set for October 5 and results on October 8, the Congress is focusing on attracting voters with targeted pledges.
Notably, the manifesto includes a commitment to provide government jobs to the family members of over 700 farmers who lost their lives during the protests against the now-repealed controversial farm laws.
Additionally, the Congress has pledged to reinstate the old pension scheme, similar to the one implemented in Himachal Pradesh.
Congress President Kharge Unveils Seven Key Guarantees
Earlier this month, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge revealed seven key guarantees the party plans to fulfill if elected, emphasizing monthly payments of Rs 2,000 to women and promises of housing for all.
These pledges were made during a gathering of senior leaders in the national capital, including KC Venugopal, Ajay Maken, and Partap Singh Bajwa.
The manifesto also addresses social security, proposing an increase in monthly pensions for the elderly, disabled, and widows to Rs 6,000.
The party promises gas cylinders at Rs 500 each and guarantees 300 units of free electricity per household each month.
In an effort to support the agricultural community, the Congress party has pledged to implement a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) and conduct a caste census.
The minimum income limit for the creamy layer among Other Backward Classes (OBCs) is likely to rise from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Furthermore, the party has committed to providing 100 square yard plots and Rs 3.5 lakh in cash assistance to every poor and homeless individual for constructing a two-bedroom house.
Addressing youth unemployment, the manifesto promises to fill two lakh vacant government positions and provide permanent jobs.
The Congress party’s manifesto emphasizes its focus on empowering families, enhancing social security, and uplifting backward classes, farmers, and the economically disadvantaged.
The party held power in Haryana for two consecutive terms until 2014 and aims to regain influence in the state with these comprehensive proposals.
