Congress Slams Kerela Govt After Handicapped Man Dies By Suicide

Following the tragic death of a handicapped man who allegedly took his own life after not receiving disability pension for months, the Opposition Congress slammed the CPI(M)-led LDF government in Kerala. Here’s a breakdown of the situation:

Criticism by Congress: Allegations of Negligence

The Leader of Opposition, V D Satheesan, criticized the Kerala government for the death of a differently-abled man, claiming that numerous people in the state are suffering without receiving social security pensions and other benefits. He highlighted the difficulties faced by citizens in affording essential medicines and maintaining a dignified life.

Warning Signs: Elderly Man’s Plea

Seventy-seven-year-old, Joseph, from Chakkittapara in Kozhikode, had reportedly submitted a letter to the local panchayat, expressing his intention to end his life if he did not receive his disability pension. His lifeless body was discovered on Tuesday, prompting accusations of government arrogance and mismanagement by the Leader of the Opposition.

Protest and Cyberbullying: Previous Incidents

Satheesan pointed out a recent incident where an elderly woman from Idukki resorted to begging as a protest against the non-receipt of a social security pension. He accused the ruling CPI(M) cyber campaigners of attacking and bullying her and now attempting to target Joseph after his demise.

State of Crisis: Governance Issues

The Leader of the Opposition warned that Kerala is heading towards a dangerous situation, with development activities and social welfare projects at a standstill. He noted the suicides of four paddy farmers in the state and attributed them to the replacement of good governance with maladministration.

Investigation and Controversy

Joseph’s death has stirred controversy in the state, with an ongoing investigation by the police. While the panchayat claimed that it cannot be conclusively stated that Joseph took his own life due to the non-receipt of disability pension, the situation has raised concerns about the state’s governance and the well-being of its citizens.
