Congress Protests Near PM Modi's Residence Over NEET-UG Paper Leak Row

A day after the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders staged a sit-in near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The protest took place against the police action on students during Monday’s demonstrations.

Echoing the CJP’s demands, the Congress sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leaks.

Congress leaders assembled outside Kharge’s residence at 10, Rajaji Marg before marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

During the protest, Rahul Gandhi also demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said the march sought answers from the Prime Minister over the police action against students. He also accused the government of avoiding accountability and refusing to hold a parliamentary debate on the issue.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi criticised the Centre over what he described as a ‘brutal’ crackdown on students protesting at Jantar Mantar against the NEET paper leaks.

Speaking outside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi said students were protesting against a ‘broken education system’ and questioned the use of force against them. He urged the Prime Minister to apologise for the police action and called for an honest review of the education system.

The protest came a day after clashes during the CJP’s march towards Parliament, when students and protesters were lathi-charged and tear-gassed by Delhi Police.

The CJP claimed several demonstrators sustained serious injuries, while Delhi Police alleged that protesters engaged in ‘unruly, aggressive and violent behaviour’ during the march.
