Congress Gears Up For CEC Meeting, Focus On UP Seats

Congress will convene a CEC Meeting today to discuss candidates for highly anticipated seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Party sources indicate that leaders of the UP Congress and the All India Congress Committee in charge of UP, Avinash Pandey, will also attend the meeting.

Previously, the UP Congress proposed to the CEC that the Gandhi family should contest the Amethi and Raibareli seats. The decision on this matter was deferred to the CEC and top leadership for further consideration.

As per reports, there is a strong likelihood that Congress will announce Rahul Gandhi as their candidate for the Amethi seat and Priyanka Gandhi for the Rae Bareli seat.

Meanwhile, Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra previously expressed his interest in contesting from the Amethi parliamentary seat.

He stated that there is widespread support for him to engage in active politics.

Vadra emphasized that he has consistently been among the people of the country and has received encouragement from various regions.

Additionally, he remarked that Smriti Irani, the sitting MP from Amethi, has failed to deliver on her promises.

Meanwhile, Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies will vote in the 5th phase of the Lok Sabha elections on 20 May.

In the 2019 elections, Smriti Irani defeated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.
